HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

For one reason or another, Central Administration wouldn’t come up and the only thing i could see was HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable..

easy fix.

Check the Application Pools for SharePoint Central Administration v3 and make sure it’s running.

*Note*
If you have recently updated the password for the service account that the app pool runs under, you might see this. simply update the login and password the app pool is using.

done!

  1. This also works for SharePoint 2010, but the application pool name is still “SharePoint Central Administration V3”, which confused me…

  2. Thanks much ……After a much headache…it solved my problem…………

    Thanks again..

  3. After trying many things this worked for me. In my case the password never changed. It just quit working after a microsoft update. To change the password, right click the SBS app pool, select Basic Settings, find account and click the (…) button. It will then prompt you for username and password and wham you are back in business.
